MIL came on, VCDS says Cylinder 3 glow plug is dodgy, the one with the sensor, it seems. Worth attempting to change it myself, with the right tools? Or leave it to a specialist?

Easy enough to get to, be gentle and if its showing signs of been tight/seized stop and take it somewhere.

Something rings a bell about using a preset torque wrench to loosen it and if it goes over the set torque without moving take it to a specialist. Unfortunately I cant remember what the torque setting is....

Thanks for that! I found torque values on YouTube, but after conferring with a friend I decided to take it to my garage, be brave another day. The glow plug with the sensor—cylinder 3—seems to be on back order everywhere, the garage ordered it, but it will be a few weeks before it arrives, so need to wait.

What is the VIN? With the EA288 engine, when changing glow plugs we have our extraction specialist engineer on call as they a ******** for snapping off no mater how hard you try, we did a set on a Kodiaq this week and two of them snapped off. It may sound stupid but we have had the best results extracting them with a 1/2” drive air gun to “shock” them out.

It is the 2.0 Ultra TDI in an Audi A6 C7.5, so I assume it is the EA288. A good mate of mine with decades of experience in VW stable cars advised me against doing it myself, precisely because of this: engine needs to be hot and to use the air gun. That's why I decided to let my regular local garage, who are independent VW stable cars specialists, do it, they know what's what. They serviced my car for the last 70-80k miles and they've been brilliant. I was just feeling confident, but I calmed down

I had the glow plugs changed at my local independent, and they commented on how easy the glow plugs came out. The only reason I could think for that was that the car had been run on Shell V-Power Diesl exclusively—except when in Europe, where it runs on OMV Premium Diesel—to which they agreed. FWIW
