    Hi all,

Had an adventure on the M25, a sudden crash bang grind noise followed by lost drive.

Any ideas what it could be?

Presume snapped CVT belt or diff. issue?

Done 198,000miles, and coincidentally(??) just had the multitronic gearbox oil changed.

I'll jack it up tonight to see if there are any external clues, but doubt it.

    Thanks
    Paul

Could be a drive shaft has failed/come off the inner cup, if it is internal that's the end of the road. The oil change could be the reason but you would have to do a full strip down to inspect and collect all the fluid to check the volume plus send it away for testing.

Thanks Crasher (and for your previous reply to my AC issue, at least I don't have to fix that now!!)

Do you know where there's a good diagram of what goes on down there?
I've got a copy of Elsawin, but I don't have full access as it tells me there's info missing from my ID. (So don't know if there are exploded view there!)

I am a bit suspicious of the oil change, but it did make the occasional strange noise when on full lock, so could be diff/drive shaft.

I've not yet got it off the road to jack it up, as it's too heavy to push up the slope. Will try tomorrow.

    Thanks
    Paul

    Thanks Again, that's useful!

However. Ehem!, I got it on the drive yesterday, and the cause was immediately apparent!
The n/s Drive shaft wheel bolt had completely come undone, and the drive shaft had disconnected itself from the hub.
Could have been quite nasty doing 70mph, I think we were lucky!
So good news, but very embarrassing since I fitted the drive shaft!
    Back to the AC now!
