So it seems my 2013 1.4 needs a new battery. So the original did well for 14yrs but needs replacing now. Do I stick with the current EFB or upgrade to the recommended AGM? I'm also seeing that the current batch of batteries from all the well known brands are crap and don't have a good record when it comes to failure and life span. Should I just replace like for like and stick to the OEM?

I give up with batteries, in the last 12 months our loan Passat has gone through a Varta, then Bosch, then Starline (which lasted 3 months) and yesterday we fitted an Exide. The size will typically be the 096 and yes we always upgrade to AGM; it will need coding in the the address 61 battery regulation unit. A freind of mine who is also a VAG specialist insists on genuine VW batteries and £290.40 isn't OTT compared to a Vatra 570901076J382
