    Hi

I recently suffered a broken key barrel which either didn't allow me to start the car or when I got to my destination the car won't turn off.

I purchased a replacement from Ebay and installed the barrel with my old key and as soon as I had done so and tested it starting stopping and key going in and out. I packed my tools and went to lock the door with the key fob only for it not to work. I got my vagcom out and programmed the keys and I can see they are responding from the measurements but they aren't locking and unlocking the car. I tried all the methods without vagcom also and for a while it was intermittent whether it worked or didn't work when pressing the lock or unlock button. The batteries are new and everything works manually but it is driving me crazy as to why all of a sudden it stopped working became intermittent and now stopped working.

Then only setting I changed after this happened was to delay the alarm from going off when I first open the driver door to stop annoying me more than the neighbours.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The three sections of the key, blade, chip and radio remote are not linked in a way what you have done could affect it. The only thing I can think of is the ignition switch is faulty and not telling the convenience system it can lock the car, check the measuring block values.

Thank you Crasher for the response.

Any ideas what measuring blocks I should look for please.

If it is faulty would that mean I would need vw to make me a new ignition switch so I don’t have two keys (one for the door and one for the ignition)

No, they can be replaced separately, the blocks are labeled.
