    Afternoon all.

I’ve had my Passat (2.0 TDI Sport BMR Estate) for two years now. When I bought it the front wings, as well of the rest of the car, were in pretty good shape for a 2006 vintage. Two years on, the drivers wing has a couple of small rust bubbles, right in the centre, 12 o clock if the wheel was a clock face. The passenger wing is worse, it has a patch about 100mm square at the bottom rear, where the wing meets the bottom of the passenger door. I’d like a few more years out of the car if possible but i don’t like the idea of driving around with scabby wings. I’m not at that point yet but does anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost to get two wings painted and fitted?

    Thank you 🙏🏼

The wings on our 2010 loan car are really bad, must get them done. The prices will vary tremendously depending on the parts used, genuine at £274.20 or as little as £55 pattern but cheap aftermarket can take a LOT of work to make look right and won’t last as cheap ones are not zinc coated. Then there is painting which could be £50 a wing for a quickie or £250 a wing for a perfect finish AND pained inside as well as waxed internally. Then there is labour, it is fiddly work with potential finish damage if rushed. So I would say as little as £200 DIY except the painting to £1500 ish at a professional body shop using genuine wings, top quality work done to last.

I've got a scrape and a bulge on my rear bumper - was quoted last year £360+ vat to fix and spray bumper

Last A4 had scabby wings and I was quoted £650ish for supply and paint two none genuine wings about 5 years ago, I'm guessing that would be £800 or more now?

£300 done for you will get a very low quality job that won’t last. You also have to factor in the possibility of needing to blend in the front doors, bonnet and bumper. A few weeks ago I had my minor damaged rear bumper painted and that was £200 trade.
@gareth23 yes it would be about that with cheap aftermarket wings but £200 ish more for quality zinc plated. Did an insurance wing on a very early 8E a few months back, genuine is now obsolete and with quality aftermarket it was £600.

Depends how long you intend to keep it and just how good you want it to look. Pay cheap and that's what you get, a cheap job. If, if it was me and I wanted to keep the car for the foreseeable, I'd raid the piggy bank.

Thanks for the replies guys.. good advice as always 👍🏽

I’d like to think I could keep the car for another 4 or 5 years, and knowing how I am I don’t like a rubbish / cheap job.
