This is a pain, the car has been telling me the key fob needs a new battery, but it was only changed 8 months ago, so just ignored it. This week the car only recognises the key when you are right next to it, so replaced the battery in the key and the thing has stopped working all together, we are away from home, having to lock and unlock the car using the app ( car needs connection and we are in the Peak District) then place the key under the arm rest to get it started. I know the key does not need to be coded so am lost as to why it doesn’t work, any ideas would be very welcome.

Did you use a good quality branded CR2032 battery? I have known some of the cheap ones to fail immediately. I would try another battery in the key if I was you.

    Cheers!

Some keys can be funny with batteries... I have a 2020 BMW, the message came up on the screen to say the key battery needed replacing, used one we have at work and sell thousands and the message stayed on.. even though the date on the battery was good.. Did some searching and it seemed that BMW only like Varta.. changed for a Varta CR2032 I have had a while and it was perfect..

Try a Varta battery if you can get one.
