Electric Steering Rack Issue

Hello All,

Few weeks ago I had a steering rack fault and the amber warning light saying steering assist fault, I can continue to drive intermittently while driving. I decided to get the steering rack refurbished at western power steering. When I gone to pull my car into the garage to take the rack off the car the red amber light shown with something along with the lines of do not drive warning message.

So i thought yeah the rack has defiantly gone, so I took the rack off and sent it away to get refurbed. I have fitted the rack this weekend and all seems well until today where the amber warning light has reappeared after just having the rack refurbed

I have scanned the car with vagcom and here is the findings.. anyone able to help me with this issue as I'm getting a bit annoyed with it.

Western are a very good company. You have a power supply problem.

Any suggestions where to start first mate? It was ok when I was driving it today but once I slowed the car down and went to turn right to do a three point turn the warning light appeared and power steering went dead. Turn the car on and off and still the same, took a few seconds after then the warning light disappeared then started working again

I would expect the problem to be corrosion at the motor two pin power plug

Do you mean the two connectors on the end of this plug Crasher? If so I'll have to try and find where they go as only seen the end plug where it goes into the steering rack

They are under the gearbox and the gear is tight against the plate, I have seen the area completely packed with rotten sodden compost, it is a stupid design.

I've had a look at both connections on the other side of that connector. One was bolted to the body near the passenger wheel behind a piece of trim and the other was connected to the power board behind the scuttle panel at the top of the engine bay. I've checked the bolts to see if they were tight and they seemed fine.

I pulled the car out the garage and when I turn the steering wheel standing still it will lock the steering and give some feedback and it will force the steering wheel the opposite way.

Not safe to drive what so ever.

Someone did check the battery health for me with a device and it said it had 50% battery health.

Any other suggestions?

I've been looking at some measurement values on VCDS for steering assist, turning the steering wheel when car is on and stood still.
