Just looking at a 2016 Fabia DSG auto as a runarond. This one has the 1.2 TSI 110ps four cylinder engine rather than the later 1.0 three cylinder and just wondered what the thoughts were on which is better and/or more reliable? My instinct having driven the odd three cylinder car from other brands is to stick with four pots.

Any other weaknesses to look out for on this car?

    Thanks!

They both have unreliable turbo's that are difficult to rebuild.

Thanks @Crasher. This one is 2016 and has 35K miles on it, and looks to have had gentle use. Do they tend to go at a particular sort of mileage, and what sort of bill to rebuild or exchange?

Do you have the VIN or PM me the reg? Low mileage and short journeys seem to cause the problem, Midland Turbo told us it is rust to the wastegate pivot caused by condensation. They replace the spindle to cast iron bore with an insert to try and stop rust but a rebuilt turbo can be a complete PITA to set up using shims.

That’s an odd one, it is a good number (it is out of tax) but it won’t come up and the VIN lookup data base but I can see it is 2016 with the CJZD engine which has the temperamental PITA Mahle turbo that we have given up on having rebuilt due to servo actuator set up problems and now only fit a genuine exchange unit at Ł1320 retail inc. VAT.

Apologies for the car reg in the PM - when I pasted it into the PM, I must have done it with formatting so it ended up in the far right hand side. Thanks for the info - at least we can factor the potential risk and cost in if we go for it.
