    Hi,
I have a 2.7t 2004 allroad and the cooling fan starts at a high speed then after the engine is running for about 40 seconds just goes to super high warp speed.
if I set the a/c to econ it turns the fans (both engine cooling and a/c) off
I changed the lower 4 pin water temp sensor with no change.
I changed the fan control unit near the left intercooler with no change.
The Bentley manual suggests relays are located on the 8 fold panel adjacent the steering column, or the 3 fold panel in the ecu box in the plenum. Neither location has the fan and high speed fan relays.
Any suggestions, it’s 40 deg C here in Sydney this week.

I need to check the wiring diagram at work but the fans action suggests the controller sees the engine is running but cannot see the temperature/command signal so it is programmed to assume the engine is overheating. Quite warm here today as well, might even get into double figures… maybe.

    Thanks Crasher,
it appears the green temperature sensor at the back of the engine is the culprit.
while it didn’t throw any errors I replaced it mainly because I was out of other ideas and I had one and that has stopped the fans going to super high speed.
I thought the sensor at the radiator lower hose controlled the fan speed but your comment helped to think about what tells the fans to run
    thanks
    john
