Hi see the attached scan from VCDS.
The vehicle is a 2010 only has 52 k mls though has stood around in between various previous owners.
It’s had a recent service, oil is clean, new filter and the engine runs fine no smoke no sputtering no discernible power loss or oil loss. On Cold start you will get the ticking tappety sound , but was in formed thats normal; the SAI injection pump ?
there’s no timing chain rattle either on start up that normally plagues TSI engines. Once warm the tappety noise is not discernible.

    1. Could the fault code be caused by faulty camshaft solenoid ? if it was faulty would it still click ? I can hear it clicking when i perform output test on intake solenoid in VCDS. When they go faulty is it the electrical solenoid or the valve galleries that gum up, preventing oil pressure from working the camshaft adjuster,

    2. or is it going to be the camshaft adjuster ? Do these commonly fail break or is the oil galleries that gum up ?, in which case, could I get away with performing a high concentrate Liqui moly engine flush to cure the issue ?

I really don’t want to strip engine down lol !!!

Early EA888 engine, an absolute nightmare for chain tensioner problems. Take the right front wheel off, remove the arch liner and there is a small inspection plug, remove this an count the number of seps on the adjuster.

Hi Crasher thanks for your reply

on my last fabia tsi EA111 engine VCDS would throw up Chain elongation code, this is not the case and I don’t have a start up rattle. I only get a ticky tappet noise that quietens once pressurised and completely goes away when oil is warm.
in your opinion based on what I described in my original post it’s not likely to be the camshaft solenoid valve or the camshaft adjuster ? It’s likely to be the chain tensioner ? I recall changing the tensioner on my last EA111 (albeit a 1.2 TSI) with no change to the start up rattle and the intermittent timing chain elongation code.

ps when you state ‘seps’ what do you mean steps or teeth on the adjuster ? Is this the camshaft adjuster ?
