Car is 02 Passat 1.9TDI estate. Have had brake fluid loss and dash warning but clutch and brakes operate perfectly as normal. Brake fluid leaking onto hot exhaust smell but cannot see where it's coming from. No obvious leaks around callipers or master cylinder but how could it be the slave cylinder as there are no symptoms or pedal to the floor etc?. Any pointers would be appreciated.

does your car share a brake and clutch reservoir? if so it could be the pipe work for the clutch around the bulk head?

Yes, the brake and clutch share the same master cylinder with the clutch operating off the slave cylinder.

Nearly all of the parts are in the plenum, except the clutch pressure pipe which exits through the grommet (if it is there) and then passes over the exhaust and box. Just about all the parts are obsolete, what is the VIN?

My suspicion would be the clutch pressure hose 8E2 721 465 AM but this went obsolete mainstream over three years ago.

Is that the hose in the plenum that's connected to the master cylinder?.

Yes, then it comes out of the plenum, across the bulkhead to the slave cylinder.

Actually turned out to be a tiny leak from rear caliper only visible when the car was parked on a dry concrete surface where the drip from a leak behind the parking brake actuation arm.
