Hi all. My wife has had above car a few months, it started off great..ony 40, 000 on clock, drove beautifully. Over the last month it has been starting to miss, been getting worse each week, seems to be connected tottingle in circle warning light going on and off, then engine light a couple of days ago.
I did a scan with a cheap reader tonight, and got 6 codes.17925, 16706, 17796 and 16725, in the engine section
    00532 in srs section
    01314 in abs section.
We are going to get a better scan done at weekend, but if anyone has had experience of this, would really appreciate a heads up.
    Many thanks in advance

Codes getting read later today. Could this be power control relay? It seems to be fine when cold, misbehaves when warmed up. Does this model have a power control relay! Vin is wvwzzz1jz4d099437 . Cheers, appreciated.

17925 (P1517): Power Supply Relay for ECU (J271 or J363): Electrical Malfunction

16706 (P0322): Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal

17796 (P1388): Control Module Malfunction - DBW Throttle Monitoring

16725 (P0341): Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal

    00532: Supply Voltage B+

01314 - Engine Control Module, no communication

This is actually quite a rare car, it came out of the Bratislava factory on Christmas Eve 2003 and is a UK “Run-out UK” model, the BFQ is a very good reliable engine and the car is EU 4 petrol so ULEZ compliant and immune to Sadistic Kahn’s low income family transport tax. The ECU power relay is a possibility, there are 3 relays in the small engine bay fuse box and from memory it is the one with 429 on top, part number 1J0 906 381 but I need to look on ElsaWin at work as there is the 428 as well and I can’t remember which is which.

Thanks Steve. We have just run a scan, nothing coming up after I cleared them last night. I believe the welds can go on the power relay? It certainly seems to be intermittent. If you can confirm tomorrow, that be appreciated, its a cheap fix if so. Hopefully not ecu, or wiring. If it was this could it bring up speed/ crankshaft sensor faults too? Advice appreciated as always.

From what I can see without being at work suggest there should be three relays in there, 100 for the secondary air pump, 428 listed for “petrol engine” (of which there are many) and 429 specificity for “BFQ” or it could mean either/or but would not explain why 428 is in there UNLESS… what is the date of manufacture moulded into the relays case? These sort of relays fail all the time, my business partners Tiguan battery went dead over night last week and we thought “AGM, five years old, replace” but yesterday as he was closing the tailgate the fans fired up for a moment and later whilst driving started running all the time and put the MIL on whith an ECU relay slow closing code so we got TPS to run one up very late and fitted it so we will see what happens.

Well I hope it sorts his, and I hope it sorts mine too! I will pull the relay in the morning, and get any info off it,before I go ahead and get another one...maybe someone stuck the wrong one in! Will post tomorrow, see what you think, when you get a chance. Thanks again.

Even with the ambiguity of the parts system info, it would be a bit dumb for the parts person to supply the wrong one if you had the original but I have seen far far worse mistakes. I can’t see fitting a 428 into a 429 position even working, they are different layouts, it is not unusual for the VIN based parts suggestion to be wrong which is why it is a suggestion.
