I have an 07 plate Touran with a 6speed DSG gearbox which I have been very unkind to.
Being a massive tightwad, in my efforts to save fuel I have been knocking it into neutral and coasting where possible. I have kept the engine running so I don't think that the box was starved of oil, however this behaviour did necessitate knocking it back into drive while the car was still moving and I think that this has been my costly mistake. Downshifts, especially into 2nd have become alarming and an otherwise useful car with plenty of life left in it now teeters on the brink.
My questions are:
1. Is this foolish treatment likely to have damaged the mechatronic or the gearbox itself?
2. If (as I suspect) the mechatronic is OK and the gearbox has borne the brunt, does it make a difference which 6 spd DSG I get as a replacement bearing in mind that I will use my current Mechatronic to control the replacement box?

If you would like to give me a tongue lashing for being so dim as to coast and bang it back into drive, please don't waste your time. Rest assured I have punished myself enough already and it doesn't really help.

Thanks in advance for any genuinely helpful replies.
