    Hello there

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm trying to help my friend who has a 2007 A6/C6 2.7 TDI. He has a serious power drain problem, and as far as I can see, it's the same cause as I had on my own A6 a couple of years ago.. I think that the Control Head is faulty and needs to be replaced, as it's not shutting the MMI system down after lock-up.

The problem is - we can't find the Control Head! Mine was tucked up behind the glove-box, and we had to remove the glove-box to get to it. However, his isn't where mine is... the only real unit behind the glove-box on his car is a WABCO unit that controls the air suspension that his variant happens to have. I know what a Control Head box looks like having already replaced one, and I can't find anything anywhere behind where the glove-box is. Does anyone happen to know where it might be by any chance? I've attached a pic of the bulkhead behind his glove-box, and circled where I was expecting the Control Head to be!

Thanks everso for any insight! Am just trying to get the part number to begin with so that we track down another one...

    Hello Crasher

    Thanks for the reply...

    The VIN is: WAUZZZ4F28N024571
    Reg: SR07CWV

The MMI Control Head is a small silver box, and I was expecting to find it screwed to the silver plate which I've circled in red in the pic below. His A6 has MMI v1.0 with the nasty small red-text dash screen, no Navigation, single CD player in the glovebox, and only an amp in the bootspace.

I'm expecting the MMI Control Head to look like this:

    Audi A6 4F C6 MMI Control Head ECU 4E0035729 4F0910731 | eBay

...which is what is fitted to my 2007 A6.

Bugger... it's this smaller blue-ish unit isn't it? (thrown by it being a completely different size/shape to the one in mine) and am guessing that it's a smaller / less complex unit, as his MMI system is a more basic, less complex system? (4F0907468D)

None of the components of the infotainment are listed as a "control head". There is

4F0 910 769 G "interface box with software, right front" which is shown as being in the glovebox

4F0 919 603 "Display unit For multimedia interface 'MMI'"

    4F2 919 611 H "Operating unit for multi-media system -MMI-"

    4F0 035 223 L "Amplifier with software for vehicle with active loudspeakers", not the 4F0 035 223 N I listed above.

    Thanks Crasher

    4F0 910 769 G - is the single DIN CD player in the glove-box.
4F0 919 603 - appears to be the screen in the dash
4F2 919 611 H - appears to be the MMI control unit installed in the centre console underneath the gearstick
    4F0 035 223 L - is the amp in the boot

None of these are the Control Head... AFAIK, from my limited personal experience, there is a central "brain" to which all of the MMI components listed above all plug into, and is effectively also the central gateway for the fibre ring of the components on the system.

My present best guess is that it is the blue-ish coloured smaller unit with TEMIC stamped onto the outside, and has part number:
    4F0907468D

This is a different sized and shaped Control Head from the one that is in my car, which was part number:
4E0 035 729 - which is a Becker unit. I'm guessing that because his MMI system is much smaller and more simple than mine, it has a more simply and basic control head.

Will plough on, and hope that it doesn't have CP on it!

    4L0 907 468 D is now 4L0 907 468 B and is the CAN BUS diagnostic interface.

    Ok - confused...

Are you saying that this is not part of the MMI system?

If not, what module is at the heart of the MMI system, and the equivalent of the Becker unit in my MMI system?

    Many thanks
