    Gents,

    I have a Seat Ibiza 1.2 Tsi same engine as the Polo.

    I am currently doing the timing chain and the oil pump chain. I don't have a manual for this model, but have looked online, and using my golf mk5 manual, and it says tighten the oil pump sprocket wheel nut, 20nm plus 90 degrees.

    The nut in question is actually a 6 point spline screw. I am able to tighten it to 20nm, but as I try to tighten it a further 90 degrees, I start to damage the screw head and rounding the screw splines. It has hardly moved any further from the initial stage1 20nm setting.

    I've used a little thread lock on it, but I don't think this screw is going to stretch.

    Anyone have any experience on this ? Has anyone done the 90 degree stage2 ? I'm assuming the manual is referring to a bolt, rather than a 6 point spline screw ?

    Crasher ?

    Help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Bob.

    Remind me tomorrow, from memory you must use a new screw which I get as N 106 559 06 and costs £2.28.

    Thanks for the reply Crasher.

    I have used a new screw, it came in the timing chain kit and looks the same as the one I have taken out.

    Does the screw need to stretch 90 degrees after the stage1 20nm ? As it is just destroying the screw, or will 20 Nm be enough, or do I need to get another Screw.. ? Or maybe I should have oiled it first ?

    Thanks..

    For a CBZ engine it is "20 Nm + turn 90° further"

    For completeness, and to let other forum members know the outcome, as I find it rude when people ask questions and then not post a reply, which may help other out. This is the outcome;

    These 6-point screws are surely not designed for a lot of torque ! I was NOT able to turn it a further 90 degrees. I just destroyed the head. It was a new screw. I removed it and used the old screw, which I applied thread locker and managed to turn it a further 30 degrees before the head started to round, so I stopped. Hopefully, that will be enough, especially with the application of the thread locker..
