    Hi folks

New to Tourans just got a 2012 on on Monday. Drove to Liverpool from Burnley where I bought it and over on the boat and home the next morning. Next day noticed something that has stumped me.

WHEN the engine is cold no blue smoke and when the engine is at normal running temp no blue smoke, but when the engine is getting to temp and oil is between 60 and 70 degrees there is blue smoke under acceleration.

Scanned with ODB Eleven and the only fault code is glow plug 4 open circuit.

Is this the problem? Or is it an issue with the EGR valve being sooted up? Or is this something else?

No noticeable loss of power or anything that would make you think there is an issue, only noticed the blue smoke due to me looking in the mirror.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yea usually the blue smoke is oil being burnt, but I can't figure out why it isn't at engine start or at normal running temp just somewhere in the middle?

The exhaust gas aftertreatment system could be affecting the visible emissions, I would start by taking off the charge air system hoses at their lowest point and check for excessive oil accumulation. If it isn’t excessive (there will be some wetting) then I would measure the cars fuel consumption but also be concerned about excessive DPF soot accumulation, do you have VCDS?

    Thanks for your reply

No crasher don't have vcds but I have odb eleven, is there something in particular I could check on there? I checked the DPF soot weight on OD Eleven and it says 4g.

I will check the other points you stated. I have ordered a new full service kit, ie castrol oil, full set of man filters etc and some moly luqui engine flush, so will give the car a service. Usually best to do that anyway when you buy a second hand car.

All sorted, after the above I had checked and the dipstick showed about 1l extra oil in the pan.

Sucked it out and the blue smoked seemed to have stopped but today did a full service and now the car runs beautifully without a hit of blue smoke.

Guy I bought it from said a service was done just before I bought it showed me a receipt and all, but they must have had the apprentice doing the work that day.
