Hi, i do not have any lights on dash and such the only odd thing i found is driving mode does not change the stiffness of the steering like eco normal sport individual; does TPI: 2056240/2 not apply anymore first before forking that much on another steering rack?

It would have to go on ODIS under Software Version Management, revising the software from 1081 to 1082 MAY help but I have tried this in the past and it has not worked, worth trying but it could be a couple of hundred pounds wasted.

The garage looked into that, and software update was not possible...so new steering rack necessary even tho does not seem to be a actual mechanical fault but electrical. Parts arrived yesterday will go in on Monday...

I had so many cars in the past hiting very high millege and having various issues over life span but this really landed as surprise as never had a steering rack failing and for what is worth in a weird way in my view.

On Friday we had a young lady in with a South African built 2022 AW series Polo, she had clipped a kerb damaging a tyre but not the wheel and the angle sensor inside the steering column motor failed, this is not a spare part so new column at £2500 plus installation. To add insult to injury, there is no UK stock of the parts and no availability date which on an 18 month old car is shocking.

Time to update this i gues, and a bit of advice for whoever thinks they can find another way to sort this fault.

First@ crasher yup 90£ wasted with the upgrade as you said is the likely outcome and that was my choice gamble..

Second genuine uprated revised seems to be kind of expensive and hard to get especialy for rhd vehicles, and yes even tho it is a electrical fault code and does not light up on the dash the assisted steering it does not work properly and you will realize this after the steering rack gets replaced and is fault free as is deteorating slowly cripping in.

Aftermarket or remanufactured are a big hit and miss as most either fail in relatively short miles( my one under 50 miles ended up having excessive play and knocking) others are bad to start of with either play out of the box... even tho are still very expensive 1000£ or so...(i am not talking about no name nowhere not a trace 300to 500 plastic casing ones.

Second hand as far as i could tell and ask around all have the same issues and not worth the time.

End of story. The garage got it sort it in the end and about another 5 steering racks later after the first one was fitted and failled internally driving the car for one evening.

Hope all of this is searched and red, as this fault is not much talked about online about. After all that happened i would say the only way forward to save time and money both side car owner and garage in my case is go genuine even if that means to wait for it as will be in and out of the garage in one day and fixed.

For my sake i hope this is the last big thing happening with the car as this year... so far seems like i managed to tick all the boxes of common faults and failures...
