Some time ago the A1 kept throwing up the glow plug light (the one the manual does not tell you is a fault code but it is!!) and following a scan a new MAF meter was fitted...all was good for some months.
Now we get get the glow plug light and MIL into limp mode at times. Scan gives

    P0101 MAF sensor A circuit range/performance

P2279 intake air system leak bank 1

Is it likely a poor MAF giving strange readings? it works increasing and decreasing readings.

Or could it be the MAP sensor?

Or are there any common vacuum leaks? cant find any on initial look.

Hi Crasher......again. OK. so even though no code for EGR it is likely to be that?
it is a 2014 so earlyish, the A3 2.0tdi did behave in a similar way with faulty EGR but it coded as such.
No guarantees I know but do we reckon its worth fitting an EGR then?

Is the EGR on this engine part of the plastic inlet manifold.....so cant be removed seperately?

We do daft numbers of CAY EGR units, in fact we are now changing genuine units we fitted 3 years ago which is embarrassing but the TPS warranty is 730 days and that's it.

hmm.....indeed, I have sworn not to have any more VWAUDI after more than 30 years.....nowt but issues with them more recently. I have also run two cars from another continent in the past three years....no warning lights at all, both diesels.
I need to work out where the EGR is on the A! conflicting evidence on internet between rear of engine and on intake at top front.

On the back of the block, under the turbo, behind the CAT/DPF, covered byt the drive shaft, impossible to access from above. 6 hours work on a lift in the air for an experienced tech.

    Yes, it's in there

    A new genuine unit

Removed, the arrow points to stud which is a PITA for snapping

Crasher thanks. Today just for the hell of it I cleaned the EGR stub thingy and pipe at the throttle end...the square type hole in that stub that inserts into the plastic manifold stub was about half size due to soot and muck.
Anyway tried car and within half a mile the glow plug light came on and into limp mode so its duff!
My scan shows pending P2279 Intake air system leak bank 1 as the MIL light not on yet so is pending.
I have the luxury of a 4 post lift in my garage to have a big job on assuming that EGR causes this code......nothing about EGR which our A3 2.0tdi di have when RGR failed.
I am not looking forward to this job.
Regards and thanks....if there is a decent crib/guide on what you have to or dont have to move to remove offending item please direct me someone!
By the way.....if that stud snaps can it be drilled in situ for repair? perha0s heating it before trying to slacken off is an idea?

Crasher, before I go for the EGR........I have underneath found an issue, the intercooler pipe has a small split and has obviously leaked under boost...
SO could tht bring that code up? it is indeed an air intake leak!
    Thanks

I thought you would like to know sadly the issue has returned after about 1000 miles. The sorted air leak has meant no limp modes and the P2279 code is clear and not returned. However the P0101 code is back as pending and also current with MIL light on. Periodically the glow plug squiggle light comes on.
I assume we are back to the potential EGR early signs of failure?
