Interesting problem. My day just got the above car and we went to do a service on it. Its got a metal canister oil filter and we purchased a replacement from a reputable local car parts shop. The problem appeared when I removed the old filter. The old one has a female thread in it to accept the spigot on the mount on the engine. The new filter looks identical but has the spigot on the filter, to screw into a female thread on the mounting on the engine.
I spoke to the shop where i bought it and they said its the right filter, and the spigot should be in the filter not the engine - they claim to have an ex VW mech working there and confirmed with him. Their theory is that if came out of a previous filter, when it should have come off with it??
I have since looked at 3 online parts sellers, GSF, Eurocar parts and one other and they also all show the filter with the spigot on it, also a couple of YT videos on servicing this engine, again spigot is on the filter.
Just wondered is there was anyone on this wonderful resource that could also verify the spigot should be on the filter, not the engine, before we set about trying to remove it from the engine...
    Many thanks in advance
    Paul

The OE number is 06J 115 403 Q which is £17.24 and looks like this, which make did you fit? We only fit genuine VW.

    Hi,
Many thanks for taking the trouble to check on this. I'm not sure of the make of the aftermarket filter, but it looked exactly like the one you showed.

However this is the one I removed. the body is the same diameter and length.

I am beginning to think the shop was right and some how the spigot stayed on the engine instead of being removed with the filter.

That still gives me the current (there are earlier such as B and J) number of 06J 115 403 Q which would be a Bosch F 026 407 080
