Firstly, sorry for the long post, but I wanted to explain all the facts.
Secondly, would the scenario that the garage is describing be possible?

Collectedcar from garage at 10.00am, took car to petrol station and put in £80diesel. Drove home collected my daughter and began journey to London, via A338, M27 & M3.

Whilstin traffic at Chandlers Ford, noticed smoke coming form under car, ascar had just been serviced, thought they may have spilt some oil andit was burning off. I planned to stop at the next services(Winchester) to check car. Engine temperature read normal (Just belowhalfway on the gauge).

47miles into the journey (11.15am), one mile before WinchesterServices, engine temperature still reading normal, oil warning lightcame on, pulled onto hard shoulder, then 10 seconds later enginestopped. I looked under the bonnet, oil all over the engine and stillcoming out.

Walkedto services and called RAC. I also called the garage and told themwhat had happened and I would get the car recovered back to them. After about 90 minutes (12.45am) the RAC arrived at the car, therewas nothing he could do, but he did comment saying that I had lost alot of oil and it was all over the engine. He then called for therecovery truck.

Therecovery driver called me at about 4.15pm and told me he was on hisway. I then called the garage to see where they wanted me to put thecar when returning it to them as they would be closed when we gotback, they said find a spot out side there should be loads. Thegarage then said ‘I think it may be the oil filter seal not beddedproperly’

Therecovery truck arrived at the vehicle (4.45pm), he recovered thevehicle and then collected us from the services, he commented thatthe vehicle had lost a lot of oil and all 4 wheels had locked up andhe really struggled to get the car on the back of his truck.

Wearrived and dropped the car off at about 7.15pm.

At9.00am I called the garage to see what was happening, they told me tothem the strip it down and have a look and they would get back to me.

Ihad heard nothing from the garage, so at 1pm I walked down there. Onwalking in I was shown through their workshop to the car which wasalready in bits, the mechanic said ‘there’s loads of oil in it,we haven’t put any in it and the oil filter was fine’ They thenmentioned that there was a lack of coolant in it.

Theysaid that they would continue to look and get back to me.

At9.00am, I received a call from the garage, they stated that theythought it was a problem with the turbo. They went on to say becausethis was a water cooled turbo the turbo must’ve run out of waterand then tried to suck up oil instead, causing the turbo to breakforcing bits into the engine. And it was nothing to do with anythingthat they did during the service.

Theywould provide me with a quote to replace the engine.
