I have an old faithful (touch wood) 02 A4. Only one ignition key which I've only ever used manually (no remote).
Thinking about a second key but dealer price exorbitant.
Can I have a key cut from a blank without worrying about the remote facility? Thanks.

My A4 is 4 years older than yours, had only one key when I bought it, and has no remote locking nor alarm.
I used Google, and found someone fairly local who does/did very little else besides travel around France opening cars and starting them when owners had lost their keys.
He struggled for a while, using the OBD connection, I think trying to get a code from the ECU, but then realised that on my model (1996) the chip in the key fob is read by the loop antenna and processed by a module in the instrument panel, which then sends a signal to the ECU.
He then used an amazing machine which read information directly from the chip in the key, to cut a key to fit the lock and clone the chip. He charged me €100 for two keys.
This was in France, in 2017, but searching "clone audi key" in the UK produces many locksmiths who can do this for a similar price.

The key is three components, the cut blade, a RF ID chip and the remote. Some companies can clone the chip so the car doesn’t know it is a different key.

And because yours is an 02 a B7 key fob will not communicate with your remote locking. different frequency. I tried this. Key worked, pill worked but not the remote.

Thanks C. I'll try the cloning. I assume they can't do it from the Reg. no. ? ie they'd need my key for a while? or do they do it while you wait?

Thanks L. I'm not worried about the remote. I assume that still involves getting it cloned, for the chip?

The guy in France did it while I waited.

Yes M, it always requires to be cloned with a NEW chip.
