Wifi hotspot or E-sim data warning

Hi all

We the latest big software update after having a new steering wheel fitted and we are now getting either a warning about not having a data plan for the eSim or if you turn off the streaming setting a warning saying it can’t connect to the external wi-fi hotspot. We don’t really need internet access and have never had the warnings before. It’s just annoying you have to manually clear the error every time you get in the car! I haven’t tried enabling the wifi hotspot yet but wondered if anyone else has seen this issue since the update?

How old is the car? If it is over 3 years old then the initial contract for the data eSIM (not then for emergency call which has a longer contract period) will have expired. You will also have lost the access to Infix based traffic information for the sat nav and will only see TMC based traffic information which has far less coverage and is not "real time"

Hi. The car isn't 3 years old yet (Nov this year). Enabling the hotspot on the phone makes no difference though, but what I have noticed is that the infotainment system doesn't find my phones hotspot. It's almost as if the the fact both the car and phone are connected by CarPlay wirelessly prevents it from seeing it. Like I said before never had this issue before the big update came down... not a big deal just a bit annoying!

If you are using CarPlay then it changes a lot of the ways the system work, for instance when CarPlay is connected you can only have one phone connected tot he car (the one for CarPlay) rather than the 2 that is possible when CarPlay is disconnected. Have you tried searching for the wifi hotspot without CarPlay connected?

What helped me was resetting the network settings on both my car and phone, then manually re-adding the hotspot connection. Sometimes, the update changes how the system prioritizes network connections, so toggling off CarPlay temporarily might help to see if it connects properly.
