    Hi All

Just returned from a 300 odd mile trip up north over 2 days. About 20 miles from home and the dreaded DPF light came on for the first time since I have had the car (4 years but only done 18,000 miles in that time). Current mileage is 101,000 miles.

Admittedly most of the way home was at 50MPH due to unnecessary motorway restrictions but I did get up to 70MPH on a few occasions for short periods. When I parked up there was a whirring noise from the engine for quite some time even with the engine off.

Fortunately the car is not in limp mode but what can I do to get rid of this light?

    All advice very much appreciated.

    The car is a Q5 2015 Sline+ with 101,000 miles, 2.0TDI Triptronic.

I dont believe that siting at 50 would restrict a regen. it does sound like it was in the process of a regen when you stopped as the fans run longer to cool things down from a higher temp.
I know when mine is doing a regen it will sit close to 1K RPM at tick over rather than the 800 or so.
A scan is really required to see what is going on, but with any luck it will sort itself out after a regen or 2.

    Hi Crasher

Yes the DPF light is still on. I just been on a short trip to the dentist and when I switched off the engine when I got there and back home the whirring was still going on and some ticking noises (light metal on metal) coming from under the centre of the car. So it sounds like its trying to do a regen.

I did a scan the next day after returning from the long trip and this is what came up. I cleared them thinking that they were unrelated. I had seen the EGR ones many times before without triggering the DPF light. I just scanned again after the trip to the dentists and its completely clear.

I also have VAG DPF Lite on my phone which is currently showing

Soot Mass Calc = 18.14g, Regen Duration = 18 mins, Distance since last regen = 407 miles

I probably drove it for a maximum of 18 minutes today.

I checked this yesterday too and the Soot mass was around 26g and Regen duration was 0.

    Hope this helps

You have an AdBlue system problem, you need full VCDS.

Does that mean that the DPF regen is actually working correctly but due to the Adblue issue the car is misinterpreting the error?
Can you elaborate on the Adblue problem please?

The AdBlue system can do all sorts of stupid things such as not injecting enough reductant or too much, these systems are terrible and cause huge complex issues.

    Hi all
I took the car to a friendly mechanic that I came across recently. Same guy Crasher that reset the ECU on my daughter's golf. He plugged the Q5 into his gadget (not vcds) and tried to force a regen. That failed a couple of times cos one of the temp sensors (turbocharger) was showing 0.0. So he reset the DPF by telling the car that a new dpf had been installed. That brought the temp sensor back online. He then forced a regen which revved the car at 1500 rpm for about 20 minutes. The temp reached around 600 degrees. The soot level went down to 0.12g and the car drives a little smoother. Dpf light is gone. Hope to go on long drive tomorrow so see how it behaves.
