There's a spate of keyless thefts going on in our area. It would be nice not to have to remember to stash the keys in special pockets overnight, etc.

AIUI the newer KESSY keys stop transmitting their codes after a while if not moving, such as left motionless in a bag in hallway (we don't habitually leave ours there by the way, but it can happen).

Is it possible to have that new style of key cut to replace the "always active" ones that I expect out 2017 model has? Is that an effective resolution, or have I misunderstood the vulnerability?

Other things I've considered...
  1. Disable keyless entry via VCDS
    1. But it apparently leaves boot still accessible...
    2. ...and keyless ignition working.
    3. So no real improvement.

  2. Completely disabling KESSY in VCDS
    1. But not sure how to start car then
    2. Don't want to turn it off experimentally to find I can't get in, all matched keys deleted, etc.

  3. Get "simpler" keys from somewhere like Timpson that have remote button, but no keyless transmit, but...
    1. Not sure if these exist
    2. Not sure if they have suitable local transponder to start car

Suspect there are other threads on this that I couldn't find, so feel free to link them rather than repeat .
