Some time ago following a puncture on our A7 fitted with 275/30/2121 Dunlop tyres, we were forced to purchase a Pirelli P zero for it as the Dunlops were out of stock everywhere.
I mentioned several times that I needed R01 (Audi fit) tyres but when my other half came home from the fitting I immediately noticed the lack of rim protection on the tyre. On close inspection it was not an R01 as requested but rather some code for a Ferrari fit (don’t remember the code now).

The fitting centre had ordered/ received the wrong one and fitted it without checking. After several hours on the phone to customer services over a week period they finally accepted their error and ordered a Dunlop (now available again) for it.

I can’t help but wonder if the Audi fit P Zero really does have a bigger rim protection than the Ferrari fit tyre they had fitted by mistake?

My other car, an A6 with 255/35/20 P Zeros on it has plenty of rim protection, as much as the dunlops on the A7 but there was something odd about the non R01.

I contacted Pirelli for some horses mouth information but could not get them to give specifics. I lik the Pirelli’s on the A6 but I’d hate to order an R01 Pirelli for the A7 and find it’s no different to the one they had fitted in error.

Anyone got a set of R01 275/30/21 PZeros on their A7 they can show me a pic of to save me a costly error? If not I’m stuck on Dunlops (which start life with 1mm less tread depth than the Pirelli’s.
