ok so I've owned a MK7 GTi on a 13 plate around 4 years ago but I'm currently looking at a Golf R on a 65 plate with 90k on the clock. I'm reading that the timing chain should be done around about now but I have no idea of cost. I'm London based so any idea of price and any garage recommendations greatly appreciated.

Also, what should I be looking for when I go and see the car? any common issues or faults that I should be looking of?

    TIA

To do the chains properly is a big job but we monitor the adjuster through the lower cover inspection hole and recommend replacement when it is six steps out and STRONGLY recommend replacement at seven steps. The pre-facelift R has a weak clutch in both manual and DSG and neither forms take kindly to high torque remaps, the later cars with the DQ381 7 speed DSQ cope better.
