posting on behalf of a friend. he has 2000 1.9 tdi passat that has a clutch issue. he recently bought the vw, its a nice motor, has some good history. when viewing it, it was alittle tough selecting some gears at times compared to other cars, it wasnt slipping and there was no dmf or release baring noises. the noise when moving the gearstick sounded more external around the gearbox rather than internal, we put it down to possibly being a linkage. he said the brake fluid warning light came on a week or two ago and has stayed off and the fluid level hasnt moved since. yesterday the clutch pedal decided to stick to the floor and had to be pulled back by hand. it happened again today and the clutch seems to be worse.

am looking for some advice, ideas from those who know more about the b5 1.9 tdi. ive seen some posts mentioning the master cylinder as a common fault, also to check around the top of the clutch pedal for damage ( but fluid loss would point to something else?) and the clutch slave cylinder has been mentioned a few times in my searches. ive changed clutches on other cars before, the csc, slave cylinder etc has always been internal with the gearbox needing removed. i read on the 5 speed passat it can be removed and inspected without removing the gearbox?

hi mate, would the reg help? am not able to get to the car tonight. this is what am after, but these are in poland. i think the pipe/adaptor are an older design. ive been trying everywhere, even a full pipe from a later model/used would do. found some new be they wont post untill after the year

It is too old for the VIN to work in FI Suggestion, I get the part number as being 8E2 721 465 which means it is the same as a type 8E A4 and yes, it is obsolete from VAG UK. VW Classic have them, but guess what, so do I! I looked at the picture on VW Classic and thought "I am sure I have one of those in my NOS stock"

the pipe i have is ok mate, its the same as yours, you see the flanged end like a brake pipe, i either need the adaptor for that, that connects to the slave or the later pipe that has the fitment on the pipe instead of the brake pipe style end. hope that makes sense, thanks

I can see the problem now, you need the earlier slave cylinder 8E0 721 257 B which Sachs no longer sell but others do such as the Febi 26868 which is in stock
