Hiya my first post, hello i got my first VW only 18 months ago, a 2005 B5.5 and i love it, I've only had cheaper cars before, 90s fiestas, 1 90s escort, Peugeot! (No!), last car was a 1998 Carisma (RIP ) now i eventually have a quality car (carisma also was imo) a Passat 2005 B5.5
I am converted to German cars now, Quality cars just like their ww2 planes

welcome, I loved my B5 passat, AFN engine with over 200K on it, well the odometer didnt work for a couple of years so more than 230K probably, and it was a bit like triggers broom, I replaced the engine (timing belt snapped on the way to pick a new one up!!), gearbox (I never addressed that small?!? leak), and turbo twice (missed a service or 2 and the rebuild wasn't great) lol

I did see it on the road about a year after i sold it, but on Gov.uk looks like it only lasted that year after i sold it..
it is the reason why i signed up here initially

The correct name for your car is a "type 3B" and for the facelift version either a 3B3 (saloon) or 3B6 (estate) and then three further digits denoting more specific details such as trim and engine, these were the last well built VAG products, everything since (Golf 5 etc) has nosedived in actual build quality with the current ethos being on "perceived quality" but designed to fall to bits after 10 years. The A4 type 8D with which the 3B shared much of its platform was the same, built like VAG used to.
