Not sure if this has been answered elsewhere on the forum, I did do a search without finding anything that matched my question.

Can anyone tell me if there is there any ride height difference between the A6 Quattro Sline Avant and the front wheel drive only A6 Sline Avant? If possible what are the values are for ride height for these models? I'm looking at the 2015/2016 models.

From reading around I also understand that there was the sports option for Sline, which lowered the car further again. The question I have relates to standard Sline without the sports set up.

I'm still in the process of trying to figure out a replacement car and although I do mainly main roads there are some lumpy lanes down my way and I sometimes fill the boat with heavy crap! I'm just trying to get an idea on whether the quattro is higher/lower/same because I would like the 4WD but not if its lower! I'm probably pushing my luck as it is already with an Sline.

    Cheers

Standard s-line drop the height by 10mm. And believe me, it's enough.

Cheers Whippy. Confirms what others have said. The longer wheel base on an A6 combined with the Sline with sports option it'd be a matter of minutes before I grounded the vehicle! That or several sessions with a chiropractor!!

Was hoping that the Quattro version might be higher. It's a good option for me on size, fuel economy, performance. I currently run an standard 04 A4 and my gut feeling is that the Sline would be lower than this. I periodically drive this down unmade roads and have to take care. It's making me re-think things.....

The S-Line (and Black Edition) was available with Standard S-Line Suspension which drops the suspension 10mm from the Dynamic Suspension standard on the SE (and was available as a no cost option on the S-Line). Additionally there was the S-Line Sports suspension which was also a no cost option on the S-Line which dropped the suspension a further 10mm over the S-Line.

Brill thanks for that info. Also a reminder that I should check the build specification on anything I view to make sure I'm clear on what the ride height is.

As a point of reference my understanding is that the Sline A6 standard suspension set up has a ride height of 165mm. Any idea what my current A4 Avant ride height would be? Can I measure it myself and if so where and how?! Just be a useful yardstick on whether an Sline would survive where I normally drive.

Also, I notice that the A6s I've been viewing on Auto trader have drive select. I am assuming that doesn't change the ride height? They're coil overs and no air. What exactly is the drive select option doing?!

    Thanks again

Just to clarify, the "standard" S line suspension is a 20mm drop from the SE suspension. The optional S line Sports suspension drops the ride an extra 10mm, so a 30mm drop from SE suspension.

The three non-adaptive suspension options are:

    1BA - Dynamic suspension
1BE - Sports suspension. Lowered by 20mm with more firmly tuned springs and dampers for more direct contact with the road
1BV - S line Sports suspension. With more dynamic suspension tuning and vehicle lowered by a further 10mm (over standard Sports suspension)

If it helps, my 2016 A6 was a Black Edition with the 1BV suspension, and the ride was not at all uncomfortable.

    Cheers!

    Cheers MF much appreciated.

Would those codes be present on the PR sticker or is that only available via a system that decodes the vin? I have looked at trying to identify factory spec online but it seems only available via dealer or using Erwin.

I don't mind paying and doing that (I'd download the repair information etc at the same time) if it's a car I'm definitely set on making an offer on. But it'd be really handy to be able to check the specs of a vehicle listed for sale before I get to that stage.

    Hi,

The build sticker on my 2016 had a PR code of 1BV on it, yes. The complete list on the sticker was:

    E0A;7MM;4UF;6XF;5SJ;6TS;1KW;J0B;1LA;1X0;1AT;1BV;3F A;5TL;7X5;F0A;9G3;0G7;0YK;0JH;TD1;3NZ;8IT;U1B;X2B; QZ7;1XT;8Q3;9Q8;8Z5;DE5;7UG;F73;7K1;4X3;2K7;3L4;VW 4;3Y0;4K4;5D7;1SA;Q1D;4G0

    Cheers!

Don't be put off by horror stories of s line suspension, so long as it's yet basic s line running on 18's, it's fine. Start dropping it further or dropping 20's on it and it will get harsh.

Would it be worth considering an A6 Allroad with adaptive suspension against the Avant ?? Similar load lugging ability to the Avant but you can raise or lower the suspension as you wish??
