Looking at the system and the sensor locations, surely the cat is the last box, as the DPF differential pressure is taken before the last box, so will be measuring across the first.
It's not at all clear and when you look at the options for the system, there appear to be several systems available, one or two don't seem to have a cat, unless it is incorporated into the first box.
Luckily for me, the option that I have fitted (and that looks standard to the car) is the most expensive to source. I believe that one could retrofit the other type, but sensor wiring and pressure sensor pipework would need to be moved.

Looking at how my system has failed and the indications leading up to it, I believe that the cat had a blockage, either pre-existing, or caused in transit when it was shipped, it's not beyond possible that the muffler is also partially blocked and this might account for the relatively poor fuel economy and rough running.

My options are now to replace the system (one on order) or cut out the last box and weld in a straight through tube, if the last box is indeed the cat, it's a quick and dirty fix until I get the opportunity to do the whole thing.

    I hate DPFs...

The workshop system ELSA doesn’t make it clear as you can see in the diagram but as far as I have seen, the cat is always first.

Looking at the different systems that appear to be available for my car, I'm wondering if small changes weren't made for efficiency or to make it more difficult to remove the DPF.
For example, the last diagram you posted, shows a before and after DPF pressure pick-up. Mine only has a pick-up in front of the last box in the system, so I'm wondering if the pipe that is open to atmosphere in the engine bay, is a more basic reference than directly across the DPF in later models.
The reason that I need to understand this, is that whatever it is that has the hole melted through the wall, can be cut out and temporarily patched with a straight through pipe at this point, until my new system turns up. The question is wether or not I might get a code thrown, as if there were a before and after pick-up, there would be no delta P with a straight through pipe, but with a system that references atmospheric pressure, there will always be a delta P. The question in this case is, will it be enough to keep the ECU happy.

I won’t get involved in removing emissions equipment, I think the difference in design is for heat and space reasons with right hand drive.
