    Hi All,

After some advice, my indie who I have used many times before, did a gearbox service and now I’m getting issues since then.

I have put the car in with Audi who are investigating the issue but it’s not looking promising.

Issue I have is when standing in traffic or say traffic lights, car in Drive and foot on the brake, you start getting a clutch/fluid burning smell coming into the cabin. Put the car in N or Park, the smell goes. Gear changes when driving is spot on, when no sudden clunks etc. no errors are being thrown either.

Since the service I have only driven the car say 150-200miles and that’s going back and forth to the indie or now taking it to Audi. Audi dropped the oil and it’s burnt. Also the day it was under filled by 2.5l. They have done another oil and filter change, took it on test drives etc and said all good now. Just before I was going to pick up I got a call saying it’s still doing it. They suspect the underfill and wrong oil being used for it to burn so quickly and change colour has caused internal damage. Seems a new gearbox is on the cards. I could try the clutch pack but either way only difference will be part price and labour is the same.

After some advise here please? Has anyone come across this?

Do you have an info on the parts and fluid used? Your car has the NHA code box which means it is a 0B5 and if you search for “0B5 problems” you get a LOT of hits. The fluid used must conform to G 052 529 standards and setting the fluid level is a very precise process but I have heard of (not experienced) many instances from people all over the world where changing the fluid has caused problems.

    All the invoice said was:

    S-Tronic Gearbox fluid quantity 6
    S-Tronic Gearbox filter quantity 1

That’s it, rest was engine service items like oil etc

It states levelled with aid of diagnostic equipment.

Audi state it should be 6.5l and we sell 7l as you can’t get 0.5l bottles. Also 6.5l should come out not 4l. Plus it shouldn’t be dark brown with a strong burn smell…

The quantity’s look consument with the requirements but don’t reveal the specification so we have no idea what is in there.

I will never know and questioning the indie he said it’s genuine oil. I’m a bit stuck now.

Can under filled transmission oil cause such a burn on what came out considering I didn’t drive the car apart from take back to the indie twice, and then now to Audi?

If the oil is burnt that that is pretty disastrous with a 0B5 and many gearbox companies won't touch them.

I could just replace the clutch pack, but what other damage has being under filled caused to the mechatronic and gears???

Changing the clutch pack is not a massive job and the pack, 0B5 141 030 E, not silly money at £790.08 so it may be worth replacing it as a new full gearbox is a special order Vehicle Intelligent Part according to VIN, part number 0B5 300 060 K 001, has to be paid for upfront and is a rather eye watering £11694 before installation, filling and coding.

As I said, many auto box specialists won't touch these boxes but the clutch pack can be done by any decent garage.

The official Audi time for changing the pack is a hysterically optomsic 110 time units (just over an hour) but the really time consuming part is the roughly 10 to 12 hours it takes to remove and reinstall the box.
