Sick TFSI CDNC - tensioner failure

Hi all, Not been on a forum for many years but thought i'd join one as it may come in handy over the next few weeks.

Wife called the other day to say her car had broken down. 2013 A4 TFSI with CDNC variant engine - only 57k miles.

Couldn't get it into a garage for over 4 weeks so ended up having a go myself.

Seems the cam chain tensioner has failed, bending the inlet valves.

From what i've read it seems like the new style tensioner. Can anyone confirm this? And if so, are these prone to failure? (I only have a rubbish picture of this but i can get a better one)

What is the VIN and the part number of the tensioner? Be aware that the impact on the valves on the pistons often damages the pistons and rods which then let going when you have rebuilt it, I had a lass on the phone this morning with the same engine in a Golf GTI and it was obviously destroyed. She was recommend to us by a number of other garages who refused to rebuild or fit used and we are the same, we will NOT rebuild EA888 engines, we only fit new engines from VW.

Out of interest, why won't you rebuild Ea888 engines?

Firstly, the engine is a piece of junk, even VAG won't rebuild them as they are THAT bad, the block and head castings are defective. Also, if the engine is being rebuilt for a customer we can't make the numbers add up at £72 an hour against a full unit from VW at £8044.80. Also, VAG themselves will not rebuild this engine, it is not available as an exchange, only brand new so you have to ask yourself why? DIY is an entirely different proposition as you are not paying labour. The other point is that we don't have to cover the warranty, that is provided by the UK dealer network for two years. Before Christmas I rebuilt the engine in my friends Octavia TDI as a favour for a friend. I built it with a new AMC head and all new usual's such as pistons, bearings, cam, etc and the parts bill AFTERMARKET was £3000 trade plus VAT. Add to that the 50 hours labour which is £3600 plus profit and VAT on the parts and you can see why IF a reconditioned exchange "base engine" was still available at £6290 plus cam belt kit, water pump, turbo rebuild etc it would have less and with a dealer warranty.
