    Hi all,
    The old lady () is nearing 10 years of trouble free motoring. The other day I did a scan (just for fun, no "visible" problems) and it came up with this:

    So, it looks like I'll need some new glow plugs.
    Firstly, what is the expected life-span (just out of curiosity) as I'll tick 100k miles around the 10y mark in few months?
    Secondly, what is the brand to go for?

    On a separate note, it seems that I'll also have to finally change the battery. Still on the factory one and really pleased with the fact that it lasted this long.

    Glow plugs are a service item, removing them from this engine is a butt clenching and frightening experience as they crack, grind and screech their way out and sometimes snap which is a bad thing!

    I would get them from the dealer, they are not expensive. Keep the area clean when replacing.
    I paid EUR 22 for one last time I did it on mine, but that was 2 years ago...

    I'd use a multi meter check to see if the plugs have actually failed, not the wiring. Then make sure they come out first, before buying any. If they won't budge, and are not throwing a check engine light, I'd leave alone!
    I last change some on a friend's van, and 1 plug was stuck. So I warmed up the engine, and whilst still running got the plug to move very slightly, almost certainly winding the plug up like a torsion spring. Very carefully, I worked it back and forward just 1 'click', used plenty of WD40 (engine off to soak), and it loosened up, especially when it had undone about 1/4 turn and the WD40 could penetrate down into the soot, the engine pulsing also helped a lot. Soon it was loose enough to remove, engine off obviously!
