Engine management light has come on a couple of times since Christmas on our VW Sharan TDI 13 plate (80K miles) and already cleared the fault and its come back on, Code is P205B which relates to the reductant temperature sensor and googling shows its all related to the AdBlue pump etc. but looks like you can't just replace the sensor - has anyone experienced this on a VW Sharan and what was the solution ? Thanks

    P205B
    Raw code: 205B
    ECU: Engine control unit
    Status: Confirmed
OBDII: Reductant temperature sensor - circuit range/performance

You have the early SCR system. Remind me tomorrow, I can’t remember for sure which part it comes with but I think it is the heater element repair kit 7N0 198 970 B which is £321.60

Thanks Crasher - any idea on labour time, I'm thinking 3 hours as the bumper will need dropping unless you can access it by taking the wheel and wheel arch liner out.

I can look the book time up in elsa but from memory the last one took the best part of a day as everything was ditched and rotten, every fastener put up a fight and even though it isn’t petrol, you can’t exactly just dive in there with the oxy. Also working with AdBlue is disgusting, you can’t get out of your mind that even though it is synthetic it is still urine and it feels horrid on your hands, any you spill grows into alien looking crystal mounds overnight.

Hi Crasher, I wondered why it was closed- thanks for coming back so quickly yesterday, just wanted to confirm it requires 7N0 198 970 B and I also forgot to ask if its fine to drive the vehicle with this fault, from my understanding its just a heater so won't affect emissions or anything else so fine to drive with the fault.

The sensor is known as "G685 - Temperature sensor for reducing agent" and is part of "Z102 - Heating for reducing agent tank (heating circuit 1)" itself being powered by the "J891- Control unit for reducing agent heater" which I still get as "heater element repair kit for G685" 7N0 198 970 B. This means taking the tank out which VW laughably say is a half hour job in total!
