Try the flush. I first used the hose several times in both directions. I got some system cleaner and put it in the core and let it soak for an hour. Follow by hot water then the hose flush. It worked for me. If the core is blocked you will need a new one.

Thank you. First job after Christmas. Just in case, I checked your parts list and the core seems to be 4B2819011 I'd be grateful for your confirmation? There's a 4B1 as well so I guess it will be 'handed?'..... Merry Christmas to all.

That is the part number for the Aux heater.

You need item16 8E2820031. that is the heater core for RHD, Use the OEM as aftermarket ones are not so good.

    Yes 8E2 820 031 and £280.78 plus you need the seal kit 8E0 898 380at £22.91

There isn’t a huge choice aftermarket, about the best would be Valeo which is OE

Before you get up to your e
lbows in heater matrix, are you sure it’s not as simple as the cold / hot actuator flap not working and stuck in the cold position. If not when was the water pump last changed, plastic impellers break up and need replacing at every cam belt change.

Thanks for responding. Interesting what you say because heater matrix is replaced and still no heat. Pennies are in short supply so I haven't investigated anything else yet. I haven't a clue how to access the actuator flap?

Remove the glovebox, 5 or 6 small bolts, there you will see 3 or so actuators with different coloured linkage arms, have the car running and change the temp from cold to hot on the air con unit and you should see the actuators and link arm moving, there are others for putting heat on the windscreen etc, basically mess around with all of the air con controls and distribution buttons and things should move, if they don't that is the bad actuator. I have repaired these myself before, i think i did a little write up on it on this site, you may be able to find it. There is also another servo (actuator) under the drivers side panel below the steering wheel, you may also need to remove this and check that one too.

Very very helpful 89 even for a 'ficko' like me.... MOT tomorrow so I'm tinkering around with other things this afternoon. If all OK I'll attack that next. Much appreciated....

Hi rhen... Thanks again. Went out on MOT day to find car entombed in ice. No heater so I ran it and had to scrape windows in and out. Fingers froze on the fiddly wiper blade clips. Screamed it in 3rd for 3/4 miles to get it hot for emission test. Got there just in time, 'squirters' frozen but it passed. I love my MOT guy!
I'll leave it now a few days till it warms up a bit and I've got over the frostbite!
