That can be caused by the turbo overspeeding due to a sticky VNT system or by poor/loss of lubrication, if you have the turbo rebuilt (Midland Turbo are brilliant) they will be able to tell you what has happened as if it is lubrication failure, you need to know why before fitting a new/rebuilt unit.

i took it apart to see if i could solve it. the exhaust side was all caked in soot and i think it built up on the barings as i need to use force to rotate it and it is making a scraping noise. I was gonna get an exchange unit from Midland Turbos as i need the car back on the road asap as its been off since 10th august

They could probably turn yours around in three days but it’s easy for me as I can drop off there at 8am and pick up at 8am with a quick diversion on the way to work.

When OEM Garrett was problematic on our BKD engine I got a Mellet one from Darkside that was a straight swap and somewhat cheaper than new Garrett. It cost a bit more than a Midland Turbo rebuild / exchange of the original, but helped with tight timelines.

If you are sending it off make sure you know what bits to keep for fitting an alternate, or that might not come back with the original. That might include studs screwed into the casting (use the two-nut trick to get them out with no damage), oil connectors, etc.

It was a little while ago that I did mine. I'm pretty particular at getting parts that will last and not cause their own problem, so all i can say is I was suitably convinced at the time and had no trouble at all with fitting or use.

I think the additional bits were Darkside rather than Mellet - bout could be doing them a dis-service. I wasn't impressed enough with their quality to use any / many of them, so reused the original parts where feasible.

Yes they supply gaskets but not the almost always required downpipe clamp and the manifold to head nuts.
