front doors no electric windows and central locking

So last weekend windows on the front and central locking stopped working. Key would lock all doors except driver door read load online about wires in the door breaking up went ahead and took door card off to get to the harness and stripped back the rubber boot and found this

had to add some extra wire to the large brown wire but all the rest were cut and re-connected using butt connectors and heat shrink

All working like normal

I has this on a 2005 New Beetle cabrio last week, there were five broken wires and the boot lid was the same., I wanted to fit new harness but they are obsolete already!
