Hi i recently got a 2009 1.4 golf and the a/c blower , rear wiper and cigarette lighter do not work i have done a bit of research and have pulled out the a/c control panel ,it seems i have lost the voltage on the big red and white wire (white trace) that goes into terminal 5 on the 5 pin plug on the back of the control panel after looking it up it seems that the wire is terminal x or some car with auxiliary heater ? I have been told relay r4 control this but cannot find relay r4 ,i have found the relay panel under steering column but cannot find picture of the same relay panel as me ,i have 2 643 relays black and 2 grey relays 53 and 3 small narrow grey relays will put pic below.

any help would be much appreciated

Could be one of the smaller relays just on the lower edge of your picture. Can you get a better view of them? The supply fuse will also need to be working. Maybe number 40 in the nearby set, a 40A one?

I have moved this as I realised it is a Golf 6. Yes, check for power at fuse 40 in the dash fuse box. If there isn't any power remove the J59 X relay (53 on top, position 2 in the upper row of 6, part number 4H0 951 253 A) and check for power at point 2. If there is no power, check fuse 30 in the engine bay fuse box. If there is power at position 2 of the X relay, bridge 2 and 8 corresponding to 30 and 87 of the relay and everything should work. If the relay is not operating, check for a permanent earth at position 4 and an ignition live at position 6. If there is no live at position 6 you probaly have a faulty body control module.
