Noticed some oil on the engine tray underneath the car. Thought it was possibly coming from the AC compressor as it’s directly in line with the pulley but turns out the oil is gathering on the bottom mounting bracket bolt.

Looks like the leak is coming from the sump to block joint so thinking I need to remove it and reseal it again. (I used Dirko 036.164 D176501 A1).

Also the underside of the intake manifold appears to be wet with oil. Thinking possibly oil is being flicked up from the driveshaft?

Any ideas of where the leak is coming from?

BCB? Have you had the chain cover off? Very minor weeps though.

BCB engine code? No a BAG if that’s what you are asking?

I had the timing chain off about a year ago (had to helicoil a thread for one of the timing chain cover bolts near the one of the oilways as it was leaking by).

Agree they are fairly minor but enough to cause wetness on the undertray and manifold.

You reckon it’s the timing chain cover to block joint instead of the oil sump to block joint or is it a combination?

I did the job to the letter replacing all the bolts / gaskets etc. This was discussed in length over this forum and via email. You very kindly sent me a breakdown of the all parts required in an excel doc.

    Let me know your advice.

Sorry, losing the plot, meant BAG. Yes I remember the Helicoil fiasco, the one at the back could be a slight sump weep being thrown up by the CV so I would do the sump again personally with new bolts and using the proper VAG D 176 600 M1 which is Elring Dirco HT 036.164, not the 030.790.

This is the one I bought. Have they got the part numbers mixed up?

Appear to be referencing another VW part number.

    Does

    D 176 501 A1 = 030.790

    D 176 600 M1 = 036.164

    Code:
    Item number: 181950290901

New Latest Version 70ml Tube of ELRING 'Dirko' HT 036.164 (Replaces 036.163)

Permanently Elastic Sealant for VW, Audi, SEAT & Skoda Aluminium Rocker / Cam Covers and Sumps Rated to 315 Degrees Centigrade

Equivalent to VW Audi Seat Skoda part numbers:

    D 176 501 A1, AMV 174 004 01 and D 000 400

D 176 501 A1 is for the carrier to head to block transition points only on the head side of the metal gasket

I’ll get the right stuff this time then and try to reseal it again. Once you apply the bead do you tap the whole lot down so it covers the width of the mating surface.
