The last two days I have had a strange experience with the gear change on my car. Normally it is a very smooth operation but suddenly it was a very different process. Very physical, awkward, mechanical and hard. The normal movement of the gear lever was difficult. However when the engine was warm it was normal. One other unusual detail, my foot had the clutch fully depressed. Could it be a servo problem?
    Thanks.

The brake servo is not involved, what is the selection like with the engine not running?

Did he perhaps mean 'slave' rather than servo?

Without the engine running the gearchange is perfect. I am going to the garage I use here in a couple of hours and see what they say. I got the impression the last time I drove it that as the engine got warmer the problem decreased. I am going to let the engine run for a few minutes before I go the garage and maybe there will be a difference. The other noticeable difference was that the clutch pedal was on the floor, I will try double declutching when I go the garage.

The pedal stayed on the floor?

Not when I drove to the garage but when the garage owner drove it he mentioned the pedal and it is unusual to have to floor it all the time. His assesment was that it needs a new clutch and taking the mileage into consideration 300,000km. it must be expected. So another unexpected financial bombshell to handle!
