It is about time I changed the cambelt on my Passat 2.0 tdi. But a question arises in my mind: Why have VAG changed the cam locking pins for the new models? The recommended pins are now long with half moon aluminium heads. Are locking holes much deeper and/or narrower? What is the real reason for the different pins? The Crankshaft locking tool is needed because of the modification on the new engines. Please help me because I don't want to buy the new tool kit as it come at a price. Anyway, I have bought the crank locker, still have my old Cam-locking tool kit.

Anyone who can explain to me I will greatly appreciate. I will be doing the job soon before I go on holiday.
