Where on my 2015 quattro engine is this sensor. I've a P191A00 'loss of crankshaft synchronisation ' intermittent fault. I think the sensor might be rear of engine next to transmission. Its a long reach sensor, 85mm, part 059906433J. Is this it at the back of the engine in this still below from the CRT engine video? The black structure. Can't find anything except a YouTube for a different model, on the rear next the tranny oil cooler.

If this is it, it would be handy as I've to drop subframe to do a transmission oil change anyway, so a few minutes and a torx bolt to change. ETKA parts diagram just shows it in isolation with other wiring leads, no context to the engine, part 13.

It is under the car at the back of the engine, you have to move the ATF cooler to one side but it is unlikely to be the sensor, the code is a typical indication of EA897 timing chain stretch

Is that likely at 206,000 km. It's a big job I'd imagine.

It is common at half that milage especially if it has been abused with the recommended Audi service intervals. Yes it is a HUGE job, engine out.

I've run my OBDELEVEN on the live data, camshaft adaptation intake is mentioned as a reliable indicator of chain stretch, if it exceeds 5° on these engines. I'm getting 3.32° plus minus .02 of jitter. Crankshaft signal evaluation status just says GAPFOUND, which I take it as good. This is a hall effect sensor, with an active 12v supply and output, it is unlikely to miss a beat, unlike a two wire sensor. It would however be prone to low starting voltage, and I've been getting a few low voltage related errors on the the ABS and the GATEWAY, and even a few slow morning starts when I was sat with ignition on too long in the evenings as I played with my successful Android Auto software based upgrade. Maybe I'll need a new battery, I've seen it mentioned that pulses lost during startup can trigger the sync fault. Battery is the original from January 2015, so no point in being a tightwad about 7.5 year old AGM.

From what we are seeing, 6 years is good for an AGM!

My previous BMW 5 series with N47 engine drove me nuts. Well known timing chain stretch problem at very low miles, engine out to change before it BROKE, €€€€€, then Turbo blew due to blocked DPF, not once but twice in the years, €€€€ and €€€€. On top of all that, battery management system would power down accessories and clock. When AGM battery was only 5 years old, starting perfectly etc. Constantly having to reset clock time. And would sometimes disable the central locking overnight. Really annoying. Oh, on top off all that, the steering lock would throw a red fault, DONT STOP ENGINE!, as if would not unlock. It never failed to lock or unlock, but the hall effect sensor on these was prone to misreading the lock bolt. Worse, the lock was not a separate part on the column, so a new column needed to satisfy the ecu. I bought a small emulator board from Eastern European manufacturer and disabled the steering lock altogether. My Audi is a dream by comparison.
