I have a 2016 VW Sharan with the ventilation re-circulation flap defaulting/returning to the closed (re-circulation) position.

A scan has produced 2 Fault Codes:

9472881 - Motor for Fresh Air / Recirculated Air Flap
    B108B 71 [008] - Actuator stuck

9472882 - Motor for Fresh Air / Recirculated Air Flap
    B108B 54 [009] - Missing Calibration / Basic Setting

I believe this is the flap that is driven by the positioning motor for recirculated air operation (V113), in this car sits above the blower motor.

If I select re-circulation mode the flap stays where it is, if I de-select re-circulation mode the flap will move to the fresh air position but after a couple of seconds will return to the closed/re-circulation position. I have tried this with various combinations of fan speeds, air distribution modes selected, A/C on, A/C off etc., all with the same end result the flap returning to the closed/re-circulation position.

I have tried the re-calibration process, press/hold both buttons on the ventilation controls, this does seem to work as the flap will cycle through both positions always returning to the closed/re-circulation position, on a side note this process isn't perfectly smooth and there is some slight noise/creaking to be heard when this is moving through the re-calibration process.

I have also run a basic settings through VCDS and this always returns successful/completed in green text in the status bar on screen, with the movement of the flap similar to the above mentioned re-calibration process, always returning to the closed/re-circulation position, this then allows for Fault Code 9472882 to be erased.

Just to add the faults can be cleared using VCDS and remain gone until the ventilation re-circulation flap is selected/de-selected.

I am guessing that the above shouldn't be the case and the flap should stay in the position that has been selected? i.e. Open when re-circulation not turned off, and Closed when re-circulation turned on.

Do these positioning motors give trouble in ways other than just failing to operate at all?

Any guidance as always much appreciated.

V113 is for the manually controlled AC, on the Climatronic the motor is the V425 which contains the potentiometer G644 and you can buy the updated V425 under part number 2Q0 907 511 F (£117 in the UK) but sometimes it is the duct unit itself which fails and this is 1K2 820 304 B (£378 in the UK) AND it is a bit of a fdle to change, glovebox out.

    Thanks Crasher,

Is there anything particular to look out for if the duct unit itself has failed? Is there catches/locks/clips that can get broken that hold flaps in position?

The 'updated' V425, would that suggest a problematic 'original' V425? Or just a modernized component?

I have had the glovebox out, and was stumped a bit at how I would even go about getting the duct unit out, I removed 2 x 6mm Head Bolts but the back side seemed fairly well secured, maybe I wasn't being heavy handed enough.................
