    In addition to the sticker I think the engine code should also be "dot punched" onto the crankcase, or nearby. Not necessarily the full 4-characters for "newer" ones, but at least the CAV if it is from that family.

    For some reason they no longer do that. I had a CAVD down to a bare acid dipped block and I found not a thing. All this fuss and pain over VIN protected electronics and now they can't be bothered to even stamp the block!

    Anthropogenic climate change, the biggest con inflicted on mankind since religion...

    But for the supplied engine I expect it'll be a 3-character B__, which will confirm it is not CAV_.

    Ok thank you. The issue I had with my old engine was misfires and low compression on cylinders 1 and 3 and when they’ve taken the head off there’s quite a bit of movement in the pistons and we’re not sure if the cylinder has worn or the pistons have broken as I know they break between the rings if it turned out to be the pistons would it just be a case of replacing the pistons or would it need reboring and oversized pistons putting in?
