    "steering wheel alignment sensor" well that will not help. The car doesn't know when its straight, so many other systems depend on this knowledge they will all then throw a hissy fit. they go out for awhile until the car computes the input is not correct.

    I’ve just taken it to VolksShop a VW specialist in Hereford. They did a diagnostic check and the fault is the rear offside brake sensor.

    Apparently not a big job, providing the sensor pops out and does not need to be drilled out.

    Yeah that will be Crashers point of a VAG specific reader - same theory applies wheel speed sensor is used for multiple systems and will result in multiple fails when not working right.
    what reader did you use out of interest?

    Sorry I said brake sensor . I think you are right speed sensor… Shortly afterwards, the lights went out and as I went over a bump , they cam back on.
