Fuse 8 is blowing on our 53 plate AZV engine Touran, which AIUI is typically a sign that the throttle valve motor is getting stuck. I took it off, and opened it up. Control board housing is full of oil (which surprised me) plus a couple of teeth on the drive gear were broken off and floating around - so probably the cause indeed.

For many VAG models the original part 038128063G is updated to 038128063L, and most aftermarket parts list compatibility with both. But for that era of Touran it seems that the G suffix is still listed - and not L.

Does anyone happen to know if that's just an omission? Is there some subtle incompatibility to be cautious of?

    Thanks for that Crasher.

Having then ordered a L suffix from a breaker I was sent an M suffix .

If I look at MY04 (our car) then I only see the G suffix:

For MY06 Touran (and some other models in similar years) I see G and L listed, suggesting interchangeability - it was this not being shown for MY04 that prompted my initial caution:

Very few vehicles have G, L and M listed, and then they do it is something like this for MY08 Touran showing a specific changeover VIN - suggesting that M is not a compatible swap:

Overall I'm disinclined to wire up the M suffix, although I may bolt it in place to get the car back on the road as it is no worse than the (now rather dismantled) G was!

It is why I gave up using second hand parts and having to do a job twice, at least!

Makes perfect sense if time is money, etc. For me the typical 100 saving on breaker vs new adds up enough that the occasional rework is OK.

Main phaff with this one is the ~150mm long M6 screw to manifold through throttle and EGR valves with the captive washer that makes it hard for me to feel if I'm turning head or not. Then I hit on a wheeze of "preloading" it into them with a pair of nuts set a couple of cm from the tip and tightened together to stop it slipping out while doing the two shorter Allen screws. Then found that gives a handy way to spin it in hand tight via reasonably accessible space near the manifold before the fiddly insertion of Allen key at lower end to tighten it up. Hopefully a nice quick job to fit the proper part when it arrives using same.
