    HI all,
I am hoping someone can help me out with this.
    2008 2.0 TDI 140hp B6 Passat.
A while back the car dropped into limp mode and the 'engine light' came on.
I ran a VCDS scan and it showed the EGR as faulty. After removing and cleaning it, didn't solve the problem, so I purchased an after market replacement.
This was fitted by my self and seemed to be virtually identical to the OEM part.
After this the engine light stayed out and the car ran perfectly - for about two weeks, which in not may miles as I work from home, when the engine light came back on

    Below is the VCDS scan.
The car runs perfectly, no loss of power or any other detectable problems and MPG is still good. I have tired cleaning the connector to the EGR valve to no avail. Resetting the code only lasts for a couple of short journeys when the light returns.
I have exercised the EGR with VCDS and can hear it moving, but have not done this while its off so I can actually see the valve moving.

Any ideas what can I do next to resolve this issue???

    Thanks in advance

There are views on places like the Ross Tech forum that non-VAG parts are prone to giving that error.

My preference on our similar aged car is to find a genuine part from a breaker via eBay if DIY fitting. There's a decent chance that it will work just fine. I can't think of anything I've had that way that didn't work out.

We refuse point blank to fit aftermarket EGR units. on the CBAA and CBAB this was originally 03L 131 501 D, then E, then G and now K and at a guess you fitted something like the Euro Car Parts 42444043S? We will fit Pierburg if pushed, when we can get them

Many thanks for all the responses people.
Looks like I need to get either a second hand or new OEM EGR - rats!
Still cheaper than having a garage figure that out
    Regards
    Paul
