I have an overheating issue on long inclines, initially i thought it was the thermostat so that got changed and seemed to help but it still overheats the coolant (going by the needle) at a pretty fast pace. I can help the issue by lifting the accelerator until it levels out and starts dropping. The warning lights showed up when i first saw this was happening 'engine overheat'.. which was on a pretty steep part of the motorway.

    Anyone had this happen?

What is the cars VIN? If the coolant gauge goes above 90 it means it is really over 116, in the late 90's, to stop people obsessing over the minutiae of the gauges reading, VW programed them to read 90 from a real 77 up to 116 and then for the gauge to "suddenly shot up" when it reaches 117, so stopping one problem and causing another one. If a gauge doesn't tell the truth, why provide one in the first place?

Not really due until November this year (if you agree with the highly debatable five year rule) but it could be worth having the belt and pump done, we only fit genuine belt kits and pumps.
