Thanks for the reply to the original thread, do not understand why it is now closed…
Understand the reasoning of around 10k-12months, against 18k-24 months, but why is it not reasonable to do around 9k at 18 months. Same amount of mileage for the oil just over a longer period of time. As said various distances traveled in a cycle from 10-300 miles it can spend 2-3 weeks not used then used for a couple of days then not used for a period. So what is the rational for doing a change at 12 months no matter what the mileage, high or low…

I’m no engineer or expert and had similar queries about long life servicing etc. The advice that i went with was along the lines of

”long life servicing is all well and good if you are happy to keep the vehicle for 6 years/ 100k then move it on, in which case you’ll probably have no problems. But if you intend keeping the vehicle for the long term oil changes at 10k / year and servicing will give you the best chance of long trouble free life.”

The long service interval was alledgedly introduced to keep costs low for fleet owners who wanted minimal bills and max resale value as a result of a “full” service history.

My old C5 had 230k on the clock , original turbo, exhaust, clutch , when i decided it was not worth the cost of getting it through its last mot and it was scrapped. I bought it with 97k and a longlife service history, it then had oil changes every year no matter what the mileage was as a minimum and 10k changes as a max. It only went into a garage for the cambelt and water pump service , mot’s and the cylinder head injector electric thingy to be changed. When it was in it had an oil service , rest. I did.
Current C7 is getting similar treatment , but has the gearbox service i can’t do and needed an intercooler pump, it gets premium fuel. Last time it was in they checked the dpf loads and at 76k apparently was doing well.
Personally i don’t see the point of a main dealer history after 5 years especially as i intend keeping it for as long as i can, an extra oil and filter change is nothing in the scheme of things. Local specialist is half the labour rate of Audi so it all evens out.
