My wife's Polo has done 11000 miles in 5 years and is due a service.
I have been informed VW recommend cam belt change every 5 years - note only 11000 miles.
Is this a recent service requirement? They will say change the tyres next.
I know this is a bit of a moan but this is my wife's 6th Polo and we have not had to do this before.
(I have replaced cam belts on my Passats but they have done large mileages)
    Any comments?
    Mike

    Thanks, Details below
2017 1.2 TSI and I checked visually it does have a cam belt.
I read somewhere on these models the belt should be OK for the life of the car (though this does seem optimistic!)

The CJZC or D... it is a regular dilemma for us, VAG Germany make no mention of time, just kilometres which from memory is 240K on that engine; this five year thing is the invention of VAG UK and for a garage it puts you in a difficult position, you know this 5 year thing is BS BUT the customer might think I want it done anyway and you could lose the work to someone else and IF it did fail, you would look liable for giving bad advice, so what do you do?

    Thanks Crasher,

Yes, the difference between VAG Germany and the UK causes the dilemma. I will just get it done.

I looked back and see I did have it done on one of her past Polos but the others - maybe she didn't have them for so long.

My son was unlucky in the 1990s and had the belt go on a Polo (he had it about six years with no replacement!) and then very unlucky with a Golf that was not that old.

    All the best,

    Mike

It should not say this (my other name could Jinx) as I have just had a dead A3 dumped on me by a trader with a potential cam belt issue but it is years since I have seen a failed cam belt and I can only recall two ever on customers cars and one of those was caused by a failed poly V belt getting dragged in.
